Area Manager Sales Inland Shipping

Damen Marine Components (DMC), part of the Damen Shipyards Group, designs and produces rudders, steering gear and nozzles for ships. It is looking for an Area Manager Sales to grow its business in the inland shipping market, based in Hardinxveld-Giessendam.

The role:

• Spot commercial opportunities, follow market developments and develop new business in inland shipping
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with existing and potential customers
• Advise customers on propulsion, steering and manoeuvrability solutions
• Guide sales from enquiry to order, including preparing quotes and negotiating terms
• Lead a support team of about three colleagues
• Work with Engineering, Project Management and Service colleagues, and help shape sales strategy with the other Sales Managers and the Director Sales & Marketing
• Represent DMC at customer visits, trade fairs and industry events, mostly travelling within the Netherlands with occasional trips of about a week elsewhere in Europe

• Technical knowledge of maritime systems, shipbuilding or mechanical engineering, preferably gained through practical experience
• Strong commercial and negotiation skills
• Experience developing new business and maintaining customer relationships
• Good communication skills in Dutch and English
• Experience in inland shipping is an advantage
• No formal technical qualification required
