Employer listing terms

Last updated: October 2026

These Employer Listing Terms supplement the Terms of Use and apply specifically to employers and recruiters who post job listings on Boaty Jobs. Boaty Jobs is a trading name of ActiveRoster Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”), a company registered in England & Wales (company no. 17505500), registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. By posting a listing, you agree to both documents and enter into a contract with ActiveRoster Ltd.

1. Listing tiers and pricing

Prices are subject to change. Changes will be shown on this page at least 14 days before they take effect and will not apply to listings already purchased.

2. Posting a listing

To post a listing you must create a recruiter account and provide accurate information about your organisation and the vacancy. You must have the legal authority to recruit for the role you are advertising.

  • Each listing must describe a genuine, specific vacancy in the marine or watersports sector. Generic “talent pool” adverts are not permitted; contact us to discuss bespoke arrangements.
  • Listings must clearly state the job title, location (or remote/offshore arrangements), required certifications, and compensation where possible.
  • Listings must comply with the Equality Act 2010 (or its equivalent in Northern Ireland) and the law of the country where the role is based. They must not discriminate on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, except where the law permits a genuine occupational requirement.
  • The application email address or link you provide must be a genuine business address or application page for the role. Job seekers apply using the details you provide.

3. Listing duration and renewal

  • Free, Standard and Featured listings are active for 30 calendar days from publication. Premium listings are active for 60 calendar days.
  • When a listing expires, it is removed from search results. Listings are not renewed automatically; a new listing or payment is required to advertise again.
  • Expired listings remain visible in your recruiter dashboard.
  • We may take a listing down before it expires if the role is filled, if you ask us to, or if the listing breaches these Terms.

4. Payment

  • Payments for paid tiers are processed securely by Stripe on behalf of ActiveRoster Ltd. We do not store your card details.
  • Payment is due in full at checkout. Paid listings are reviewed and go live once Stripe confirms payment.
  • You will receive a payment receipt by email upon successful payment. Requests for VAT invoices should be sent to accounts@boatyjobs.com.

5. Refund policy

  • Listings are a business service. We do not offer refunds once a listing is live, except where the law gives you a right to one.
  • If you are buying as a consumer, you have the right to cancel within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. By completing payment you ask us to start providing the listing straight away; if you then cancel within 14 days, we may deduct an amount for the part of the listing period already provided.
  • If we take a listing down for breach of these Terms, no refund will be issued and your account may be suspended.
  • If a listing is not published because of a verified technical error on our part (for example, it did not go live despite successful payment), we will offer a full refund or a replacement listing period, at your choice.
  • Goodwill or partial refunds may be considered at our discretion in exceptional circumstances. Contact support@boatyjobs.com.

6. Content standards

All listings are subject to review. We may (but are not obliged to) review, edit, or remove any listing that we determine, in our reasonable discretion, breaches these Terms or is otherwise objectionable. In particular, listings will be removed if they:

  • advertise roles that do not exist or are designed to collect CVs speculatively;
  • contain discriminatory, offensive, or harassing language;
  • misrepresent the employer, vessel, location, compensation, or working conditions;
  • require job seekers to pay a fee to apply or to obtain employment;
  • advertise roles that are not related to the marine or watersports industry;
  • breach any applicable employment, consumer protection, or data protection law.

7. Data protection obligations for employers

When job seekers apply to your listing, you receive their personal data (for example their name, contact details, CV and covering message), including applications we email to you from the application form on Boaty Jobs. You agree that:

  • You will process applicants' personal data only to assess their application for the specific role advertised.
  • You will comply with the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and any other data protection law that applies to you in respect of applicant data.
  • You will not keep unsuccessful applicants' data for longer than necessary — typically no more than 12 months after the vacancy closes — unless the applicant has agreed to you keeping it for future opportunities.
  • You will use appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect applicant data.
  • You will respond to any access or erasure request from an applicant within the time the law requires (normally one month).

You act as an independent data controller for the personal data you receive from applicants. ActiveRoster Ltd is not a data processor on your behalf in relation to that data.

8. Liability

You are solely responsible for the content of your listings and for your interactions with job seekers. ActiveRoster Ltd accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Service as an employer, including but not limited to unsuccessful recruitment, employment disputes, or losses resulting from reliance on applicant information. Our general limitation of liability as set out in the Terms of Use applies.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these Employer Listing Terms at any time. Significant changes (for example pricing updates or changes to permitted listing content) will be announced at least 14 days in advance by email and a notice on this page. Continued use of the employer listing service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

10. Contact

For questions about listing your vacancies or these Terms, email us at employers@boatyjobs.com or write to ActiveRoster Ltd, 71-75 Shelton Street, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.

These terms should be reviewed by a qualified solicitor before they are relied on, particularly the consumer cancellation, data protection and VAT wording.
