Part Time Bosun

The Discovery Sailing Project is a sail training charity, part of the Scout Association, that gives young people from all walks of life the chance to experience offshore sailing. It is based at Universal Marina on the River Hamble and operates three yachts. It is looking for a part-time bosun, working around 20 hours a week, to keep the fleet ready for sea.

The role:

• Keep the three yachts (Thermopylae Clipper, Discovery DSP and Alexander Fairey) ready for sea
• Maintain yacht systems, including engines, 12/24v electrics, pumps and plumbing
• Carry out woodwork, GRP, rigging and sail repairs
• Work to deadlines and budgets, keeping the yachts fit for purpose as a charity with limited funds
• Take a hands-on, operational approach rather than managing or leading others

• Experience maintaining yachts and their systems (engines, 12/24v systems, pumps and plumbing, woodwork, GRP, rigging and sails)
• Able to work to deadlines and budgets
• Public Liability Insurance, or willingness to take it out
